Paradox Soldiers

When I was given this film to review, I read the description sheet and when I saw the sentence 'World II meet Sci-Fi,' I was already looking forward to this film and planning my night around it. So Dominos on it's way, sitting comfy in the sofa and volume on full, Lets travel back to 1944.

However which shouldn't of made me second guess this film did, It was in subtitles, I was ready to press play thinking 'oh here we go'. But my oh my did the subtitles not even matter! Paradox Soldiers certainly gives a few world war II films a run for its money. The film follows a group of four who go to an annual re-enactment of WW II in Russia to relive what could be a few memories for some. After coming across an abandoned time capsule the four soon get transported back through time without realising to the year 1944, the heart of the war. Still thinking that they are part of the act back in 2009, they believe the bullets are fake, and the generals are putting on an act, soon realising what has happened, they set there own mission to escape.

Starting off slow, and not like any sci-fi film I have seen, I was still paying more attention to the the chunks of pineapple on my pizza than the screaming Russian rock band, but as soon as they are thrown back through time, this you couldn't help but get pulled into the war. With OK acting, and with a wild storyline that somehow fits perfectly, and needed the sci-fi twist.

The film seems to be quite low budget, but with unique explosion through out the film used with amazing slow motion effect that Michael Bay probably should use to make his films better, This film could of really worked for 3D and shows, that you don't a high budget and use CGI all the time to make a great adventure film.

Definatly surprised by this film, and will certainly have to purchase this on DVD Paradox Soldiers is a film for the geeks, kids and grandparents because it does cover a lot in just a short amount of time. I mean who needed Miss Ranger history lesson a few years ago when we could have had this.

If you want a change from typical Hollywood films, I guarantee 'Paradox Soldiers' Is the film and will argue until I'm Blue, Red, yellow and green in the face.

Special Features

Sadly this film didn't come with special features, but don't need anything else we do have a Sci-Fi war film, can't be greedy.

Quarantine: Terminal has infected us with a trailer, kill us all now

The sequel to the 2008 kinda hit, thriller has a new name and brand new trailer, and it's what we all must of thought, looks incredibly average. Probably why its going straight to DVD.

Quarantine: Terminal is pretty much going to be 'The Terminal' which starred Tom Hanks, but less lovey dovey, and with a lot of ill zombie looking people eating and chewing on each others flesh, so nothing really like the Tom Hanks film apart from they are in a terminal and not allowed to leave.

Quarantine: Terminal, follows swiftly on from the first film, and the virus is spreading more than other, and now its taken effect on a plane and to make it even more thrilling, the plane is in mid air, yeah, how thrilling can one get? After having to make a emergency landing to the local airport, you have guessed right they have been 'Quarantined' to stay inside the terminal and try and survive the infection, will they do it? Well that's why you have to buy the DVD isn't it.

Check out the trailer below and let us know if this will put you off flying any time soon.

The Residents Cinema Review

Thriller, stalker, jumps and scares, victim finds out at the end what is happening and kills the stalker, The End. That's pretty much what this film is about if I'm being completely honest with you.

Starring Hilary Swank as Juliet Devereau the hopeless, naïve damsel in distress. After splitting up from her boyfriend she decides to move into a new apartment alone, so she can think about her future and what she wants in life, and stalker or a boyfriend pretty much. After meeting her more than helpful landlord she immediately falls in love with the apartment, and not for the landlord, who is played by have a shave actor , Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The two immediately hit it off, with no surprise, and her trust for her landlord is at its maximum even after the first day, what a surprise.

At the start of the film, you automatically judge every male character that Juliet meets, trying to figure out, is he the stalker or not, and I actually found myself sitting back really trying to get my head around the possible suspects, but then they blow the cover of the stalker about 10 minutes into the film and spoils the whole plot for the audience. For what started and could have been a very good psychological thriller like 'Seven' was back in the day, this film was well, boring. The best parts of the film were literally in the first 25 minutes. You get to see great chemistry between Hilary and Jeffrey, and really start to feel for the characters, but here is a lesson in life readers, if something is to good to be true, it normally is. I really thought this film was on to something but maybe not, cheap DVD rental maybe, not cinema smash.

Heading towards the climax of the film, well I wouldn't really call it that, there wasn't any points where you thought 'She might not actually make this' you just thought 'Oh my god, kill him already, I've got washing up to do and ironing, and work, and getting the hour and half back of my life, you stole from me'.

With not many twist or unexpected turns in the plot, this film was far too predictable, I mean even the clumsy looking and idiotic Brett Ratner could of figured this one out for himself.

If you like a typical thrillers, with the same old scenes and spooks, then this really is your film. However if you really want to do something more exciting like your washing, then I'm sure the pile you have lying around is more attractive than this film.

Steven Speilberg finally talks 'Tin Tin'

We all obviously know that Steven Speilberg is bringing 'Tin Tin' to life, and for the first time, he has been keep the project very secretive from the fans, to create as much anticipation as possible.

Thanks to our friends at Total Film we have a cheeky interview with the director, and the risk involving motion capture, and the procedure he took in deciding whether or not it was a good idea., using the controversial filming method.

Here is what Mr Speilberg had to say.

“It was based on my respect for the art of Hergé and wanting to get as close to that art as I could,” Spielberg says. “Hergé wrote about fictional people in a real world, not in a fantasy universe.”

“It was the real universe he was working with, and he used National Geographic to research his adventure stories. It just seemed that live action would be too stylised for an audience to relate to.

He also went on talking about making 'Tin Tin' look realistic, but keeping with the look we all know and love.

“You’d have to have costumes that are a little outrageous when you see actors wearing them. The costumes seem to fit better when the medium chosen is a digital one.”

He went on saying just how much he has fallen in love with the method of filming.

“I just adored it, It made me more like a painter than ever before. I got a chance to do so many jobs that I don’t often do as a director.”

“You get to paint with this device that puts you into a virtual world, and allows you to make your shots and block all the actors with a small hand-held device only three times as large as an Xbox game controller.”

We all think 'Tin Tin' looks great lets just hope it lives up to the anticipation, we all have for it.

Can you see Speilberg doing more motion capture films? How about Younger version of Indiana Jones? This is Hollywood after all, anything could happen.

Sanctum Cinema Review

If you're afraid of water or even slightly claustrophobic then maybe 'Sanctum' isn't your film. This 3D adventure starts off the way it means to go on, not giving you a gasp of breath before something heart pumping happens again.

From all of the advertisement posters that were released anyone would think it was James Cameron that directed this film but in case you didn't know, he only produced this adrenaline rush, edge-of-you're-seat action water ride.

'Sanctum is Directed by Alister Grierson who makes his first major feature film début, and what a one he decided to start with. Based on a true story and after watching it, wow, what an adventure these guys had to go through. 'Sanctum' tells the story of an underwater cave diving team who experience a life or death crisis when the cave starts to flood, with the entrance blocked, the only way to survival is to go further into the cave in search of another escape route. With twist and turns around every rock, 'Sanctum' has even the bravest critic in the cinema biting their nails.

With not much of an all star cast you would expect to be attached to a film like this, you can see maybe what it was missing. With lazy acting in parts, this film felt more like an American series and not a high budget block buster involving James Cameron. Never the less, you soon forget about these silly flaws when you find yourself holding your breath and getting out the wetsuit.

Filmed using the latest 3D technology you can see why it excelled in places, the use of 3D in many of the underwater scenes were stunning, and made you feel as if you were actually there fighting to stay alive, this technology was used smartly and very effectively. This film really has got me excited for whatever Mr 3D (James Cameron) has up his sleeves next. With several unexpected twists in the film, you really have no idea how this was going to end, which for once makes a difference to a film portraying a true story.

If you are looking for an underwater adventure which is certainly going to make you think twice about taking a dunk in the bath, then trust me 'Sanctum' is your film, just take your armbands along.

Strange but true, A statue of 'Robocop' to be put up in Detroit.

Yes that's correct you have read this title right, Robocop the much loved half man, half Robot is making a come back and probably not in the way we all wanted, as a statue.

RoboCop was a huge franchise in the late 80's early 90's releasing a high budget trilogy for its time. There have been a lot of rumours and possible signs of the butch robot making a come back to the big screen, but not before a statue of him is being made and put on show in his honour. I mean we're from Nottingham and have a statue of 'Robin Hood' maybe we started a trend off, who knows.

The money was actually raised by fans in Detroit the home of RoboPolicemen, even though enough money has been raised already you can still donate if you really, really want to, can honestly say I would to be honest. Still shows there are fans out there dedicated to this franchise.

Could this be the start of a come-back for RoboCop?

Shane Meadows talks 'This is England'

'This is England' Shane Meadows outstanding portrayal of England in 1983 blew everyone away with its shock, grit and chill to show how England was back then, so it came to no surprise when he announced a four part series would be made for channel 4 based three years later. Meadows terrified us with his franchise and created four stunning episodes to leave his home town of Nottingham and the audiences wanting and hell of a lot more.

Planning to start filming in Spring, and to bring back the familiar cast with the likes of Woody and Lol, acting as a floor filler 'This is England 88' will be the base of other spin of series to come in the future, so hopefully we can expect any loose ends that were left in '88' to be tied up leaving us a smooth transition into 'TIE 90'

Staying true to the story Meadows is co-writing 'This is England 88 and 90' with 'Shameless/Skins' writer Jack Thorne.

This is England 90 is currently is development, but being from Nottingham expect this to no be forgotten!
